A square on the map

I’ve started doing a documentary photography course at the Free University (I had no idea there was such an amazing thing!). The first assignment was to pick a square from a map and document it.

I chose the area around the new Circus Street development. I did it on a Saturday, so it was pretty desolate and a bit depressing. I think that’s pretty much how I see the area anyway. The new development is big and high-rise, and it overshadows and crowds everything around it. The surrounding area feels neglected and unloved – and like it’s waiting, somehow, for the building to be over.
